The View from Bottington Field, Oil on Board, 12×16, 2020

Plein air painting with Chris this week at Bottington Field. I was drawn to the neighborhood across the street, rather than the wonderful view of Pikes Peak with bright yellow trees framing it. Themes have appeared lately as I’ve given into stained glass interpretations of what I see. Firstly, my attraction to lines and angles connecting (see earlier painting: “Shiny”) is still alive and well. Secondly, I’ve noticed that I dislike fences–barriers, shutting out humanity and hording beautiful shrubs and flowers to themselves. The last thing, an oddity my husband pointed out, is my tendency to put a ball in places that seem awkward or unbalanced to me. The ball in this case is purple and is waiting for you to kick it…over the fence of course.
