Roswell Park, Oil on Board, 12×16, 2020

Outside again with Chris’s plein air class. His “challenge” this week was to paint all or part of this playground structure. It was difficult indeed–and I omitted quite a bit. I tried to capture it from a child’s perspective, which meant sitting on the ground. This choice was not good for the body, but I think it worked out for the angle I was trying to achieve. As usual, my drawing was subpar and I squished parts together in order to get the whole structure in view. I didn’t use a “mother color” this time, instead, opted to paint color by color. I most enjoyed the vivid colors and intricate shadows.
