Used a limited color palette which comes from artist Erin Hanson–titanium white, cadmium red light, dioxazine purple, cadmium yellow, and ultramarine blue. I really enjoy Erin’s intense colors and how some of her paintings get the same stained glass look that I enjoy in Jacoba van Heemskerck’s work. The reference photo was from a family hike in Red Rock Canyon Park in Colorado–my rocks were more purple. My panel was a little fatter than my reference photo, so I did more scrunching rather than cropping to keep all of the elements in the painting.
