Mum’s Swamp, Oil on Board, 24×36, 2020

My mom (aka Mum) wanted a painting for her living room and had sent me a couple images from Reel Foot Lake, TN–both images were taken by Six Sassy Sisters Fine Art Photography. Both her and I really liked the colors in the second photo the most, but needed to fit a 24″ x 36″ ish space, so I took the two photos and sort of morphed them together using the second photo’s coloring and lake stillness. This was definitely more of an exercise in craft more than composition as the credit for that goes to Six Sassy Sisters there. I couldn’t quite get the teal as green as it was in the photo, I omitted A LOT of tree branches, and added quite a bit more purple to the mix. The tree to the right seems spooky to me so it totally fits my mom’s obsession with ghosts and the paranormal. I was a little late for Mother’s Day, but it’s the thought that counts…right?
