Blue Patio, Oil on Board, 24×24, 2020

I saw an advertisement from Costco for all of their “outdoor living” furniture and maybe it was the combo of sadness that COVID was ruining a lot of summer activities like enjoying a patio–with people–that led me to this very blue painting. I made the plants reclaim parts of the scene (from being abandoned) and the couch cushions look a lot like a dried up creek bed. I had considered using yellow to draw attention to the three “vectors” converging in the center, but I chickened out. Tried out Prussian Blue this time…essentially the same as Phthalo Blue, maybe slightly cooler in color temperature.
