
When I was a kid, I’d hoard my best art supplies–literally until they went bad–because I was saving them for the right project. I still catch myself doing that with reference images sometimes–saving a reference for a particular idea in my mind. This, of course, is ridiculous, since you can paint the same thing hundreds of times. Monet is probably the most famous example I can think of with over 200 paintings of water lilies. To break myself of this habit hoarding reference images, I’ve started sketching the same image multiple times. This is actually my fourth time with this view in the Garden of the Gods…
